The Does Song

The Does Song - this is just for fun.  It sang badly but that's just to make you feel good!

More seriously, a lot of people mispronounce this word.

Also does is a grammatical word, it helps English, sound well, English.  It helps us form questions and the negative. For example;

What does she want to eat?
Does he like her?
She doesn't like seafood.
No, he doesn't like her in the way you mean, he just likes her as a friend.

Many learners simply don't use 'does', but if they did, their English would sound more natural.

Here's the script for the video.

Does – a very common English word but one that learners struggle with.  I’ve often heard ‘doos, do-es’.
One of the problems is that people look at the word
(increase to screen size)
Does that help?  In my experience, it doesn’t.

Now, if I say it slowly – Duh-eh-ss.  Duhehss.  But is that really going to help you?
OK, OK, OK, I really hate it but let’s sing.  We’re going to sing about something a lot of British people love.
First listen;
I love beer, Yes, I do
I love beer, Yes, I do
I love beer, Yes, I do
I love beer, Yes, I do
I love beer, And so does Tom.
I love beer, and so does Tom,
I love beer, and so does Tom,
Does Tom love beer? Yes, he does.
Does Tom love beer? Yes, he does.
Does Tom love beer? Yes, he does.
And what about Clare?
Well, she doesn’t exactly LOVE beer, not like Tom does!
But she does drink it.
So pick up a beer and listen along.
Does, does, does, does, does, does
Does, does, does, does, does, does
Does, does, does, does, does, does
Tom drinks beer. Yes, he does.
Tom drinks beer. Yes, he does.
Tom drinks beer. Yes, he does.
Tom drinks beer. Yes, he does.
Tom drinks beer, and so does Clare
Tom drinks beer, and so does Clare
Tom drinks beer, and so does Clare
Tom drinks beer, and so does Clare

What does Tom Love?  He loves beer.
What does Tom drink? He drinks beer.
How does Tom drink beer? He drinks fast.
Where does Tom drink?  He drinks in a pub.
Who does Tom drink with? Almost anyone will do.
Why does Tom drink? Because he loves it.
When does Tom drink?  Almost every day.
Does, does, does, Yes, Tom does.
Does, does, does, Yes, Clare does.
Does beer taste good? Yes, it does.
Does Tom love beer? Yes, he does.
Does Clare drink beer? Yes, she does.
Sorry, I’m not sure….. Tom drinks beer, doesn’t he?  Yes, he does

Well, I hope that helps! Because I hate singing!
Anyway, it’s your turn to sing now.
Grab a beer or if you don’t drink beer, grab a water or grab a coffee.
And let’s sing!

I hope ‘the does song’ helps.
